Jim Kacian is founder and president of The Haiku Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to archive our first century of achievement in English-language haiku, and to create new opportunities for our second; founder and owner of Red Moon Press, the largest and most awarded press dedicated to haiku outside Japan; editor-in-chief of Haiku in English: The First Hundred Years (W. W. Norton, 2013), the definitive study of the subject; editor of dozens of other books of haiku; and author of a score of books of poetry, primarily haiku. He has kayaked the oceans of four continents, and gardens at his home in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, which he shares with his partner of thirty years, Maureen Virginia Gorman.
